Inspired by Girl Who Opposed the Sun documentary project, together with singer/songwriter Aleksandra Denda, Marija formed Traditional Serbian Vocal Group ROSA, in New York, 2014. This all-female vocal ensemble unites singers from 3 different continents with a mission to preserve and nurture the authentic form of traditional, non-tempered singing from Serbia.

ROSA has performed at numerous acclaimed venues including Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, MoMA, Brooklyn’s Prospect Hall, ShapeShifter Lab, The Collective School of Music, Gallery MC, Boston University Theater and others. Group’s first major festival appearance was at Zlatne Uste Golden Festival in January 2016, Make Music New York in June and Mendocino Music Festival in California in July 2016. Besides traditional music performance, ROSA’s events included multimedia/film component directed by Marija, in order to shed the light on a broader perspective of this music and enable deeper understanding of this invaluable Serbian cultural heritage.
